Softwood log exports from Germany increased to 2.2m m³ in the 1st quarter
Germany sold totally 2.210m m³ of softwood logs in the first quarter of 2021, which is around 12% more than a year earlier.

Planed lumber exports from Estonia increased by 6%
Exports of rough-sawn and planed softwood lumber from Estonia in the first quarter were just a bit higher of the previous year’s figure of 144,905 m³.
Russia imposes export duties for green lumber
Russia will introduce a duty rate of 10% of the export value – or at least €13/m³ – on exports of softwood lumber with a moisture content of more than 22% from the 1st of July.
Sales revenue from German sawmilling industry boosted by 27.1%
Federal statistics office Destatis recorded growth of 27.1% in sales revenue in the first quarter of 2021 gained by sawmilling companies with more than 50 employees to €1.498bn.
German pellet production grew by around 8%
A volume of 802,000t of pellets was produced in Germany in the first quarter. It was also registered that production was 8.2% higher than in the previous year.
Russia introduces export ban on roundwood
Having adopted decree no. 396 on 18 March, Russia has confirmed an export ban on softwood logs and hardwood sawlogs to come into effect from 1 January, 2022.
UK: Sawn timber sales are expected to increase by 4%
Managing director of TimberTrends Nick Moore is considering the volume of softwood lumber sold in the UK in 2021 to be 4 % higher than in 2020. Moore delivered his forecast at the Softwood Conference, which took place online by the Timber Trade Federation (TTF) on March, 31.
China leaves ban on round logs’ import from Australia
The import ban on roundwood logs from Australia introduced by Chinese phytosanitary bodies in autumn 2020 was prolonged. Australia’s claims that the prohibition be cancelled are still not being satisfied by China.
US increased its sawmill industry’s share to 61% in North America
The sawmilling industry of North America generally produced 35.967m m³ of sawn softwood in the fourth quarter of 2020, exceeding the figure of 2019 by 7 %.
Increase in US imports from Europe slows down
Reached a total of 1.075m m³, the volume of softwood sawn timber shipped to the USA from the European Union (including Great Britain) during the fourth quarter of 2020 was 49% higher than in the same period of 2019.
