4.2% growth of Russian lumber output 2016
The Russian statistics authority Rosstat informs that the Russian wood processing industry’s output in 2016 was 4.2% higher than in 2015 at 22.8m m³.

The European Investment Bank (EIB) will provide an investment in Irish forestry in the amount of €112m. According to the terms of the scheme, the EIB will contribute €28.5m of investments to privately owned forests across Ireland. During the summer and autumn 2016, there was a strong demand for imported softwood lumber in China, with the volumes of import for the 2Q/16 and the 3Q/16 reaching the highest level on record.
Swedish lumber exports have remained almost unchanged in 2016 as compared to 2015 with total volumes likely to reach about 12.5 million mᶾ.
The slow but stable improvements in the housing market of the US in 2016 have resulted in both increased inner production and a rise in lumber imports. During the first eight months of 2016, lumber production increased by 3.6% in comparison with the same period in 2015.
According to the Wood Resource Quarterly, global trade of softwood lumber is predicted to increase by nearly 14% in 2016, which is caused by higher wood demand in China and the US.
Registration for the 2017 World of Wood Convention has recently started, it is going to take place on Apr. 5-7 at the Hotel Nikko in San Francisco.
Imports of industrial softwood and sawlogs in the third quarter in Germany declined by 17% to 1.721m m³.
