Latvian exports of softwood lumber fell down by 16%
After a decline of 11 % in the first quarter of 2020, Latvian sawn softwood exports decreased even more sharply in the second quarter, falling by 16 % to 739,900 m³.
In accordance with the Forest Department of the Latvian Ministry of Agriculture, Riga, the value of the exports was around € 140.9 million, which is minus almost 13 %. The average calculated export value per unit increased slightly by about 3 % to 190.4 €/m³.
After two consecutive quarters in which Latvian exports of coniferous lumber fell short of the respective figures for the preceding year, the first half of the year showed a 12.2 % decline in exports to 1.404 million m³. The total export value reached € 266.9 million, about 22 % less than in the same period of 2019.
