European Commissioner Ms Malmström hopes for cancellation of the ban on timber exports from Ukraine

European Commissioner for Trade Cecilia Malmström hopes that the Ukrainian government will cancel the moratorium on timber exports. She said this at a meeting with journalists at the beginning of October 2016.

She reminded that to receive the next tranche of the EU macro-financial assistance Ukraine has to fulfill three conditions: adopt a law on the independent energy regulator, and resolve the issue of internally displaced people.

“The third issue, which is still not resolved, concerns the ban on timber exports, which is contrary to the agreement on the EU-Ukraine free trade area, and is contrary to the WTO requirements”, – she noted.

According to European Commissioner, a discriminatory ban is a symptom of the unpredictability of the business environment.

At the same time, according to Ms Malmström, the EU understands the problems that exist in Ukraine in this sphere and is ready to assist.

As a reminder, Ukraine expects to receive the EU tranche of macro-financial assistance of $ 600 million Euro. In 2015, the country received the first tranche of this assistance. In general, the EU plans to allocate Ukraine 18 billion Euro.
