Construction is up by 0.5% in the EU and by 0.4% in the euro area
In September 2023 comparing to August 2023, seasonally adjusted production in the construction sector went up by 0.4% in the euro area and by 0.5% the EU, in accordance with the first data from Eurostat. In August 2023, production in construction decreased by 1.1% in the euro area and by 0.8% in the EU. In September 2023 compared with September 2022, production in construction fell by 0.3% in the euro area and grew by 0.1% in the EU.
In the euro area in September 2023, compared with August 2023, civil engineering grew by 1.5% and building construction by 0.2%.
In the EU, civil engineering went up by 1.1% and building construction by 0.3%.
Among Member States for which information is available, the highest monthly growth in production in construction was recorded in Slovenia (+7.4%), Poland (+3.6%) and Slovakia (+2.3%). The largest downturn trends were registered in Hungary and Romania (both -1.9%), Portugal (-1.2%) and Austria (-0.9%).
In the euro area in September 2023, compared with September 2022, building construction fell by 0.3%, while civil engineering grew by 2.5%.
In the EU civil engineering raised by 2.8% and building construction fell by 0.1%. Among Member States for which information is available, the highest growth was registered in Slovenia (+32.1%), Poland (+13.8%) and Romania (+10.9%). The largest annual downturn in production in construction was recorded in Finland (-6.2%), Spain (-6.1%) and Hungary (-6.0%).
