4.2% growth of Russian lumber output 2016
The Russian statistics authority Rosstat informs that the Russian wood processing industry’s output in 2016 was 4.2% higher than in 2015 at 22.8m m³.
Softwood lumber was the bulk of this, which Rosstat does not record separately. The production volume also increased by 4.2% in December 2016 to almost 2m m³. In the previous months, except for January, the output had been higher than in the same months of the previous year. January was the only month in which a reduction was registered at -2.2%. Rosstat indicated the highest rates of growth in May (+7.5%) and August (+6.1%).
As Rosstat does not take into account the output of smaller-scale enterprises, the actual production volume is higher, however. According to ECE/FAO, the output of softwood lumber alone in 2016 in Russia was an estimated 32.7m m³, equating to an insignificant increase of 1.7m m³.
