Austria and Germany will help to reform the Ukrainian forestry
The Ukrainian State forestry agency is involved into negotiations with the representatives of the forestry government authorities in Germany and Austria on cooperation in the field of forestry. The relevant meeting took place in mid-November between Acting Chairman of the State Forest Resources Agency Christine Yushkevich and director of the Committee of Eastern European Economic Relations Michael Harms (Federal Republic of Germany) and the representative of the Environmental Protection Agency Michael Sutter (Republic of Austria) on cooperation in the field of forestry.
The recently signed Memorandum of cooperation in forestry between the Ministries of Ukraine and the Republic of Austria allowed to start negotiations with Austrian and German specialists.
The parties discussed the launch of a large-scale plan of a tripartite international project that will be implemented in Ukraine. The project will be focused in particular on the implementation of a full public record of forests and the maintenance of the state forest cadaster. The project is very important, since the last registration of forests was held in 2011, and a full audit of the forestry sector – in 1996.
Therefore, today the priorities of the Ukrainian State forestry agency are the following: effective organization and protection of forests, ensuring the rational use of forest resources of Ukraine, reforestation, implementation of systematic monitoring of quantitative and qualitative changes of the forests.
