Japan: 6.8% more apartments constructed with timber
Building starts in Japanese wooden-structured residential building in the first six months showed growth of 6.8% to 251,662 units.
The Japan Lumber Journal reports that building starts for timber frame apartments using 2×4 lumber showed a year-on-year increase of 4.8% to 56,272 (53,690), while starts for prefabricated housing declined by 2.1% to 67,955 units. Building starts for apartments with solid construction were up by 3.3% to 211,807 units.
