The growth of Russian export of lumber amounted to 10.7% in the last three years
Due to the devaluation of the ruble Russian exporters of lumber are able to increase the profitability of their enterprises. During 2013-2015 the export volume of lumber from Russia grew by 10.7% despite the fact that prices for softwood lumber in China, which is a major importer of Russian lumber, decreased by almost 30%.
The reason is a decline in demand in China in other areas of exports, as it contributes to the release of additional freight cars, and consequently – reduces logistics costs. In addition, the Russian export duties on lumber are 10% lower than on wood logs.
