The signing of a new agreement on softwood lumber trade between the US and Canada is scheduled for October, 2016

The rise of futures’ prices for May delivery of lumber at the Chicago Mercantile Exchange is caused by the definition of terms of preparation of the agreement on softwood lumber trade between the US and Canada. The US President Barack Obama and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau agreed the terms during their last meeting.

The previous agreement expired in October 2015. Therefore, until October 2016 there has been a moratorium on anti-dumping actions against Canadian importers. It means that countries have six months to resolve the issue.
