Sawn softwood production in Germany increases by 2.8 %

During the first quarter of 2018, sawmills in Germany produced around 4.412 million m³ of sawn coniferous lumber, which is 2.8 % more than in the same period of 2017.

While the production of spruce sawn timber grew disproportionately by 10.6 % (to 3.573 million m³), the production of pine sawn timber remained around 1.9 % less than the corresponding figure of 2017 (around 613,406 m³). In accordance with the preliminary production figures of the Federal Statistical Office, other softwoods fell a lot more in comparison to the previous year. This represents a decrease of 48.4 % (225,476 m³) compared to the first quarter of 2017.
