Slovenia: increased value of purchased roundwood in January

Purchased roundwood from Slovenia’s private owners in January 2017 was worth Euro 5.2 million, which is lower by more than 18% compared to the previous month (mainly because of the lower volumes of purchased wood), in accordance with the information of the Statistical Office of the Republic of Slovenia.

Italian machinery industry reaches new record levels

The Italian industry of woodworking machinery moved one step closer to 2007’s production revenue record of €2.159bn in 2016. In accordance with the preliminary figures published by Acimall in the end of January, the Italian market had been much more available for companies than exports, which slowed down a little in comparison with recent years. Export revenues had decreased by 12.7% in 2015, but rose by just 5.1% to €1.486bn in 2016.

New Investment Project for Ireland

The European Investment Bank (EIB) will provide an investment in Irish forestry in the amount of €112m. According to the terms of the scheme, the EIB will contribute €28.5m of investments to privately owned forests across Ireland. Cheap loans will be provided to individuals engaged in direct land acquisition, afforestation, lease contracts and other forms of land management.

North American wood industry 2017

According to Wood Resources International (WRI), log exports from western U.S. to China will grow in coming time, while shipments to South Korea may decrease. Log exports to Japan will remain stable. The increase in log exports from western U.S. may lead to the higher log prices for key lumber producers in 2017.
